Audi to start including LTE in cars

The new Audi S3 Sportback can blast you from 0-100 in around 5 seconds and it’s equipped with a turbocharged 2-litre engine capable of generating 220kW of power, but that won’t be the only speed that you’ll find in the vehicle. Audi has confirmed that the S3 Sportback will be the first of its vehicles to have LTE as an optional extra allowing occupants to connect to a high speed hotspot within the vehicle with their devices. Drivers will be able to insert a SIM card with a data connection into the Audi MMI (Multimedia Interface)  which will then create a password secured Wi-Fi hotspot that you can connect to. The hotspot functionality will be a boon to services such as internet radio or streaming music services which require a data connection to stream the music or navigation software like Google Maps or Waze which need a data connection to update traffic warnings.

Audi has said that it expects the entire A3 range to carry the feature by November of this year and that it will continue to roll out connectivity in additional models, over time.
