Elon Musk wants to revolutionise transport with Hyperloop

Not content with dominating electric cars, Tesla CEO Elon Musk last night took to Twitter to tease his next big thing. Called Hyperloop, it aims to completely revolutionise commuting in the state of California by offering people a mode of transport that’ll zoom them from San Francisco to Los Angeles – a distance of 610km – in a mere 30 minutes.

It beats the pants off California’s own plans for a bullet train system, which Musk has already criticised as inefficient. With the state prone to earthquakes, Musk promised that it will be a consideration for his new venture – forming a critical part of its design. And just to make sure everybody benefits, he’s promised that Hyperloop will be an open source technology.

Full details on Hyperloop will be given on August 12th. We look forward to a charismatic Musk blowing us away.
