Last night (yesterday in the US) Google Vice President Hugo Barra took the wraps off of the new Nexus 7. Radically improved hardware and the latest version of Android clad in a smaller and lighter body have kept pace with competitors like the iPad mini. Many people considered the Nexus 7 to be the best Android tablet available. It has great specs for its price and because of the Nexus branding it also gets Android updates as soon as they’re released which for those of us who hate playing the waiting game with smartphone manufacturers is a massive win.
The new Nexus 7 features a Snapdragon S4 processor and 2GB of RAM driving a new 1920X1200 resolution display. Google is calling it the most pixel dense 7inch tablet on the market at 323 pixels-per-inch. It features the latest version of Google’s Android operating system Jelly Bean 4.3 and will come in 16 and 32GB models with WiFi and optional LTE for the 32GB. ASUS is still tasked with bringing the NExus 7 to market which will please them considering the fact that it’s estimated that they’ve sold in the region of 7 million of them. The new Nexus 7 brings a 5MP camera to the tablet in case your phone isn’t handy to take snaps.
