Happy Birthday to iHub

It’s celebration time over at iHub in Nairobi as one of Africa’s leading tech accelerators turns three years old this week. The shared workspace has gained global fame as being the birthplace of Ushahidi and iHub Research, and arguably was one of the most important centres for focussing the world’s attention on an emerging African tech revolution.

Many happy returns from all us at htxt.africa – and here’s to many more years of success.

On a personal note, it was a couple of meetings and chances to hear iHub founder Eric Hershman speak on the subject of tech in Africa while I was living in the UK that cemented my decision to move to South Africa. Just a few conversations convinced me that sub-Saharan Africa is the most interesting place to be a tech journalist right now, and I’ve yet to be disappointed. Congratulations to the pioneers up north, and all that. Could have sworn they were older.
