Local game developer gets the Green Light to put its game on Steam

Free Lives - an apt name for a game developer.
Free Lives – an apt name for a game developer.

Broforce, an action-packed platformer that parodies Hollywood action films from the 80s, has been chosen by the Steam community to appear as a title in the platform’s game store. The really cool part? It’s developer, Free Lives, is based in Cape Town, South Africa.

Steam runs a programme called Green Light, which has indie developers put up their wares and let the community judge whether it would want to pay money to play a fully-fledged version of the game. In this case, Free Lives submitted Broforce in the Green Light programme, and the community voted in its favour. Steam will now get in touch with Free Lives, and help get Broforce onto the Steam store.

The over-the-top action platformer lets players take on the roles of various 80s action movie stars, including spoofs of Bruce Willis, Sylvester Stallone, Chuck Norris,  MacGyver, and Mr T. Each has a suitably specbr0-tacular name, like Brogyver, Brohard, BA Broracus, and even Rambro. All of the heroes are under the command of the ultimate bro, Nelson Brodela.

There’s currently a free, wait for it, brototype, for users to try. It’ll run in any web browser, and there’s also a standalone version to download.

To see Broforce in action, check out the video preview from Eurogamer, below. It’s certainly as action packed as all the movies it draws from, combined.
