Are you toying with the idea of developing some Windows Phone 8 applications? Afraid that Microsoft’s development environment doesn’t have anything you need?

Well, fret not. Microsoft has a well-written blog post on its developer portal, highlighting just that: the best tools for developing Windows Phone applications. The tools span everything from planning your application, then designing its visual layout, coding it, and finally testing it before it gets submitted to the Windows Phone store.

After reports, earlier this week, that Nokia wants faster progress from Microsoft, as well as more applications, it’s a good time for the folks over at Redmond to start highlight the tools that make WP8 development easier. While experienced developers will already have processes in place, the advice on offer will be far more useful to first time developers. Who knows – your next source of income could very well come from a million downloads of a simple app for Windows Phone.

Eleven years ago Christo started writing about technology for one of South Africa's (then) leading computer magazines. His first review? A Samsung LCD monitor. Hey, it was hot news, back then. Nowadays he gets more excited about photography, cars, game consoles, and faster internet connections. He's sort of an Apple fan, but will take any opportunity to remind you about his Windows-powered home theatre PC and desire to own a vanilla Android tablet.   Currently uses: Apple 13-inch Macbook Pro with Retina Display, Apple iPhone 5, Microsoft Laser Mouse 6000, Audiofly AF78 Earphones, Xbox 360, Nikon D50.
