Nokia Lumia 625 announced – one step closer to a phablet

Nokia has just taken the wraps off its newest Lumia device, the Lumia 625. The mid-range device boasts the largest ever display on a Nokia Windows Phone: a 4.7-inch display that sports a rather lacklustre and decidedly Window Phone 7 resolution of 480X800. The 625 will be powered by a dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor and 512MB of RAM. It has 8GB of built-in storage, but that can be upgraded thanks to the inclusion of a microSD card slot.

While photography has been a  big part of Nokia’s drive to recapture the consumer market, some will be disappointed to only find a 5-megapixel camera doing duty in the 625. That said, they should be reminded that this is a budget friendly phone (priced at £200 or €220; around R3 000). The Lumia 625 will feature LTE on board, giving it a reasonable advantage over previous mid-range Lumias. Following on from Nokia’s other Windows Phone handsets, it’s available in a selection of typically bright colours, including orange, green, yellow, white, and black.
