Smart guy on the internet turns MacBook Air into a gaming powerhouse

A poster over at the Tech Inferno forums has come up with a brilliant way to boost the graphics processing power of a MacBook Air to that of a desktop gaming PC: by hooking it up to an external graphics card.

Larry Gadea is his name, and he has posted a video of his MacBook Air playing Borderlands 2, with all settings maxed, at a frame rate that hovers around the 90fps mark. According to the report Engadget ran on his achievement, that is over seven times the amount of graphics power that even Intel’s respectably-fast onboard graphics chip, the HD 5000 is capable of.

Unfortunately, the solution isn’t exactly elegant, and requires pretty much an entire other PC to work, connected to the Air via its Thunderbolt port, but it’s still very, very cool. Take a look at the video below, and bask in the glory of this guy’s genius.

If you ‘d like to follow in his footsteps, you can also follow the instructions in his original forum post to make your own MacBook Air gaming laptop.
