Tech hub group AfriLabs secures R648 000

AfriLabs, the umbrella organisation which helps to organise and direct the growing network of African Tech Hubs has received a funding injection of 50 000 EUROs (R648 000) from the Indigo Trust and the Hivos Foundation. It’s a welcome shot in the arm for the organisation, which was founded in 2011 but has just one full-time member of staff, Director Tayo Akinyemi.

Members of AfriLabs include Johannesburg’s JoziHub and RLabs in Cape Town as well as iHub in Nairobi, icecairo and Uganda’s Hive Colab. Its mission is to share best practices among the established hubs and help smaller organisations develop more entrepreneurs and social enterprises. If it’s interesting in African tech right now, the chances are that AfriLabs and one of its members is involved – so congratulations to them all.
