TED Tuesday: Bill Gates on energy and innovating to zero

Bill Gates is one of the most recognisable people in the technology world even though he no longer runs Microsoft. He now works for his own foundation (Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation) which is involved in several areas including Polio eradication, the fight against AIDS and Malaria and even the drive to reinvent the toilet and the condom. In 2010 Gates gave a fantastic talk on how he thinks the world will need to change the way that energy is created to get carbon emissions down to zero by the year 2050.

At TED2010, Bill Gates unveils his vision for the world’s energy future, describing the need for “miracles” to avoid planetary catastrophe and explaining why he’s backing a dramatically different type of nuclear reactor. The necessary goal? Zero carbon emissions globally by 2050.
