VLC back in the iTunes App Store

Those who’re familiar with VLC will know of its magical ability to play almost any audio or video file you throw at it. That alone would make it worth its weight in gold, on Apple’s iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch – devices that have notorious playback restrictions for video files. Well, there’s good news: VLC is back in the iTunes App Store, as a free download.

The application used to be available in Apple’s app store, but was pulled in 2011 due when it was pointed out that there was a conflict in the GPL agreement, under which VLC is developed, and the license for apps published in the iTunes store. Since then, changes have been made to VLC’s development, and parts of its code were issued under a less restrictive license.
