Win R100 000 by making video game tanks shoot one another

Last year’s Really Awesome Gaming Expo (rAge) saw the first ever Entelect 100K challenge, where programmers are given an opportunity to win R100 000 for completing a challenge.

This year, the challenge is to develop an artificial intelligence (AI) routine that will play a competitive game of Nintendo’s 8-bit tank combat classic, Battle City. Those who successfully write an AI client will go on to have their computer intelligence pitted against clients from other coders, with the ultimate winner walking home with a the huge cash prize.

The 2012 challenge involved writing an AI routine for TRON light cycles, but this year’s challenge adds a few more complexities. Not only will AI entities have to move around, they’ll also have to shoot, and dodge shots from other tanks.

Those who are keen can apply now on the Entelect website. Entries close on the 2nd of September, and the first round of play-offs take place on the 16th of September. The finalists from those playoffs will go on to compete at rAge, on the 5th of October.
