Feedly goes Pro, assures a future for itself

For the millions who migrated to Feedly, after Google shut down Reader, the looming concern was that the free service could also close its doors at any time.

Now, Feedly’s announced its Pro offering – for a mere $5 (R50) a month, or $45 (R450) per year. For the first 5 000 users, Feedly will also charge a once-off $99 to get a lifetime subscription. Those who take their news readers seriously will likely sign up, and ensure that Feedly has a future. For their money, they’ll get the ability to search for articles within feeds, secure browsing via HTTPS, saving to Evernote, an premium support. We do wonder, though – how often do people use support features that they need a premium version of it?

Nevertheless, it’s comforting to know that with all the investment Feedly has put into its product it can at least make some money, to ensure its existence in the future.
