August’s free games on Xbox Live

As announced at E3, Microsoft will have two free games a month for Xbox Live Gold subscribers, until the end of the year. It started out with Fable 3, for the month of June, and in July gamers had the opportunity to download Joyride Turbo and Assassin’s Creed 2.

For the first half of August, and starting today, the free game will be Crackdown, a third-person over-the-t0p action brawler. Good fun, but it was originally released in 2007. On the 15th of August, gamers will get a double whammy: zombie smasher, and more recent hit, Dead Rising 2, along with the XBL Arcade game Dead Rising 2: Case Zero.

Bookmark the dates, and make sure you don’t miss out on some free gaming to tide you over until the release of the Xbox One.

Correction: The original article incorrectly stated that the first game available in July was Halo 3. While this was thought to be the case when announced at E3, Halo 3 has in fact not been given a release date. The game released alongside Assassin’s Creed 2 in July was Joyride Turbo.
