New SimCity hits Macs at the end of August

After a disastrous launch for its PC version, and subsequently attempting to smooth things over, Electronic Arts has announced a release date for the Mac version of SimCity – August 29th. If it’s anything like other EA titles, it should be in local stores on that day, too. At the very least, it’ll be available in the now-Mac-compatible Origin store.

Apple’s platform isn’t the first choice for ardent gamers, but given the casual gaming experience on offer in SimCity it only makes sense that EA would want the millions of Mac users to also enjoy building cities. Cross-platform multiplayer also means Mac users will be able to play against PC owners. Those who already own a copy on PC will also be able to get a free Mac copy on Origin.

The announcement does come after the game was delayed for another two months. EA said then that it’s taking its time to ensure a great experience. Hindsight is 20/20, but it does mean that there’s no excuse for things not to perform perfectly.
