Upload your own panoramas to Google Maps

Google’s the sort of company that we’d call innovative, and it’s just done another thing to help reinforce that image.

Google Views is newest community project that users from around the world can contribute to. Those who have Android phones, running Android 4.2 or newer, will be familiar with the Photo Spheres functionality. This lets users capture a 360-degree panoramic photo with their device, and share it online. Views extends the functionality of Photo Spheres, by making those captured panoramas available on Google Maps – to the general public.

Using the new Google Maps, which has a few built-in social features, you’ll be presented with data for the area you’re in. Some of that data will include Photo Spheres captured by others. And if there isn’t one, why not go ahead and capture the scene, upload it, and share it for all the world to see? Y’know, for posterity.

Also, if you don’t have an Android phone with a good camera, fret not – Google has a way to let you share those panoramas you’ve taken with your proper camera, too.
