Master local public transport with FindMyway

If there’s one thing South Africans could do with, it’s a better way to make use of the public transport services on offer. While many would like to believe that there aren’t any decent public transport options, Cape Town-based startup FindMyWay wants to change their minds.

The company’s eponymous FindMyWay mobile web application is available for all major cities in the country, and aims to give commuters the right tools to master the art of hailing taxies and catching trains. While the web app is a fallback for older devices, there are also applications available to open up the FindMyWay information to users of iOS, Android, BlackBerry, Nokia Asha, and Windows Mobile devices.

Loading it up in Johannesburg, for instance, shows options for the Gautrain, Metrolrail, Rea Vaya, and Gaubus services. It also lists alternative transport providers, which in this case is limited to CitySightseeing Johannesburg.

Using a series of drop-down menus, based on where a user wants to go, the service lists not only the trains or buses that need to be boarded, but also their boarding locations and times.

So whether you’re using the app or your phone’s web browser, you can now feel a lot less lost while surfing the streets of the country’s cities.
