South African IeSF eSports team announced

Thanks to the ongoing support of MWEB and gaming accessories company ROCCAT, South Africa will be fielding a team at the upcoming International eSports Federation (IeSF) World Championships being held in Bucharest, Romania between the 1st and 3rd of November, 2013. This is according to a press release sent out by Colin Webster, Mind Sports South Africa’s President.

This trip marks several firsts for the South African contingent: the team will be captained for the first time by a woman, Lyrene Kühn, and a four-man League of Legends team will be part of the line-up.

Lyrene earned her appointment as captain through her successful handling of 2012’s Protea Team. She will be representing the country in Tekken Tag Tournament II after emerging as the country’s most dominant player.

Representing us in StarCraft II will be Yolandi Williams, who similarly cleaned up in all of the local championships in which she participated.

Our League of Legends team is made up of five players, all of whom are based in the Western Cape. They are a young team, and the MSSA expects the experience gained through participation in the IeSF Championship to stand the players in good stead for future competitions.

The South African team heading off to Romania will be made up of the following players:

League of Legends
Conradie van Heerden
Myburgh Brink
Willem Strȍfeldt
Kyle Rhoodie
Marco Botha

StarCraft II
Yolandi Williams

Tekken Tag Tournament
Lyrene Kühn

We look forward to seeing how well our local team stacks up against the international competition. Good luck, everyone!
