EA parts ways with Tiger

EA is currently making a next-generation golf game that will not be featuring Tiger Woods’ name on the cover for the first time since 1999. The two parties will be going their separate ways and dissolving their partnership, as announced by EA on their official site by the Vice President and General Manager of golf at EA, Daryl Holt.

In the post, he said “EA SPORTS and Tiger Woods have also made a mutual decision to end our partnership, which includes Tiger’s named PGA TOUR golf game. We’ve always been big fans of Tiger and we wish him continued success in all his future endeavors [sic].”

Holt did add that fans of EA’s golf franchises have always loved authentic courses and players, but that they have “also asked for more choice and customisation in how and where they play.  We’re working on a new approach to deliver the best golf experience to our fans — we think you’ll love it”. No further detail was given as to what these “experiences” would be, however.

Graphics will certainly be getting a boost, if the screenshot EA also posted is anything to go by, but let’s hope EA doesn’t stop there. Check it out:

Of course, no release date was mentioned for the new no-Tiger PGA Tour game, but it is not unlikely that the game will ship sometime in 2014.

Does this news make you sad? Was Tiger the reason you bought EA’s previous golf games, or are you happy to see him go? Let us know in the comments.
