GTA V online is now live [UPDATE: It’s down]

So you bought Grand Theft Auto V in the last two weeks and have been itching to play it with your friends, but you haven’t been able to because its online component didn’t go live at the same time as the game did.

Well, fret no more because according to Kotaku, you can totally play multiplayer with friends now. A 59mb update has been released that unlocks GTA V Online on both Xbox Live and the PlayStation network, and multiplayer is accessible via the fourth slot on the game’s character wheel, or via the Pause menu.

If you can’t wait for your GTA V Online fix, here’s an official multiplayer video from Rockstar to keep you going ’till home time.

UPDATE: Multiple reports on gaming forums indicate that Rockstar’s servers have been overwhelmed by the influx of gamers. Given how highly-anticipated GTA Online was, we can’t say that this comes as a surprise, but Rockstar did delay the launch of the online mode to prepare for such a situation. Such is the way of the internet.
