FNB to offer a PlayStation 4 deal

We’re big fans of FNB’s many device deals here at htxt.africa. Two of our own recently went with the bank’s new MacBook Pro Retina deal, simply because it makes sense to pay off an expensive item using a 24-month no-interest loan. It’s also a bonus that you’ll be paying less than the up-front retail cost. The programme is sheer genius on FNB’s part, and it’s getting them some pretty good media coverage, new customers and generating a lot of good will among gadget lovers.

With the PlayStation 4’s imminent local launch on the 13th of December, we figured it made perfect sense that FNB would use the opportunity to do something similar with Sony’s new console, so we asked.

We have managed to get confirmation from someone rather high up within the organisation that First National Bank will, indeed, be offering PlayStation 4 device deals. The exact response to our enquiry was as follows:

“We will be stocking the PS4 as per FNB’s device deal. However, we don’t have confirmation on date and price plan yet.”

While some more detail would have been welcome – pricing, particularly – this is an encouraging development all the same. More official information will be forthcoming shortly.

Working backwards, based on pricing for existing FNB deals, a PS4 from the bank should work out to around R260 per month (R6299 / 24), maybe even less if the bank decides to discount the console by a few hundred rand as it has done with other deals. That’s a whole lot easier to swallow than the console’s R6300 launch price, and will also free up some money for a few launch games.
