COD: Ghosts brings two new multiplayer modes

Tomorrow is Call of Duty: Ghosts day, and with it comes two new multiplayer modes: Extinction and Squads, both co-op modes that you can play with mates against AI opponents.

Extinction replaces the old zombie mode where you had to defend your position against hordes of the undead with a similar idea, except now you’re fighting aliens and there is an over-arching objective that has you working towards destroying the hive from which these new beasties come.

Extinction has just been made official with the release of this video from developer Infinity Ward:

There are four classes to choose from and play in Extinction: Tank, Medic, Engineer and Weapon Specialist, each with their own unique benefits and abilities, and of course it’s only by working together that you have any real chance of beating the 11 levels the mode consists of.

Squads Mode is a more traditional Call of Duty experience, as it pits you and up to five friends in battles against AI humans who adapt to your collective skill levels in various game modes, collecting XP that carries over to the live multiplayer mode. It’s a way to get a taste of the game’s online mayhem without frustrating you by being killed within seconds of spawning over and over again by people who’ve been playing for much longer than you have. Here’s a video that outlines the mode quite nicely:

The game is out tonight at midnight on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and BTGames is holding midnight launches at some of its stores, starting from 9pm when the stores open.

Will you be there, or are you tired of Call of Duty and have moved on to other games?
