Rockstar doles out in-game cash rewards to GTA Online players

If you tried – and failed – to play Grand Theft Auto V Online at any point in October, you should soon be getting the $500k in-game stimulus package developer Rockstar promised to make up for the connectivity issues that plagued GTA V’s multiplayer portion when it launched.

Early this morning, Rockstar announced the imminent guilt-gift delivery via its press portal. The official press release says it expects the drop to take two days to be fully delivered to all qualifying parties, so if you don’t see your in-game bank account swell right away, just give it some time. If, by Saturday morning around 1am it’s still not there, feel free to take to Facebook/Twitter/Rockstar’s own forums to share your indignation.

The announcement ends off with:

Thanks go out to everyone for their continued patience and understanding while we worked through these issues, and we can’t wait to bring more into the world of GTA Online. On that note, stay tuned for more details on the Beach Bum update soon along with upcoming Social Club event announcements and more here at the Newswire.

Another new game, another case of under-provisioning server capacity to support the influx of gamers keen to play online. Recent examples of how not to launch games include SimCity, Diablo III and Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, all of which experienced huge problems at launch that prevented gamers from logging in and playing. Let’s hope that one day, developers and publishers get it right from the get-go.
