The end of the year is rapidly approaching and it’s time once again for Google to release the stats on the most popular videos on YouTube for 2013. The video above is a compilation of some of the best moments of 2013 recreated by some of the most popular stars of YouTube’s various channels.

Luckily we also get a South African version of the ‘most popular videos’ list so that we can see exactly what we, as a nation, were watching this year.

The list is almost exclusively made up of videos of animals, adverts and tragic news pieces with the list being topped by the footage that eNews Channel Africa uploaded of the horrific collision of a truck and a car near Pinetown in Durban which garnered close on a million views.

While the results only show the statistics for YouTube views, we at htxt.africa cannot help but be impressed with the showing of the students from The Animation School in Cape Town whose video BIG GAME is on 240 000 views after just over two weeks on rival video service Vimeo and has been selected as a staff pick on the site as well. While the figure is short of the 350 000 of the 10th placed video in the list got we thought we’d throw it in for good measure.
