All your Gears of War belongs to Microsoft

Microsoft has bought the Gears of War franchise from Epic Games, including rights to all existing and future games. The news was delivered by Xbox Wire, the official news source for all things Xbox The company has also hired series producer, Rod Ferguson, who will join the Vancouver-based studio Microsoft has tasked with making Gears games going forward, Black Tusk Studios.

Rod Fergusson oversaw the production of the first three Gears games, after which he joined Irrational Games to work on the smash-hit Bioshock: Infinite. He then joined 2K Games on the completion of Infinite to work on an unannounced game.

That means that you won’t be seeing a Gears of War game on any of Sony’s platforms – gaming website Polygon has reported that this move means Gears will remain an Xbox exclusive in perpetuity. The Xbox Wire article also stated that Microsoft expects to unveil more Gears of War news “later this year”.
