The Last of Us and Killzone 4 DLC incoming

So it’s the early year slump, where very few new games come out to keep us busy. Fortunately, two extremely high-profile games that you may already have are getting downloadable content drops in the very near future that will give you something new to do.

The first is The Last of Us, that amazing, incredible, mind-blowing PlayStation 3 exclusive that had us in its grip last year. It’s getting a prequel called Left Behind that tells more of Ellie’s story in the time before she met up with Joel, except this time it’s going to be more “fun and playful” than the main game, according to developer Naughty Dog.

Interestingly, it’s due out on Valentine’s Day; that’s a bit insensitive considering people with significant others may not be as free as they’d like to pick it up and play, but that’s the date, and it’s been confirmed. It costs $14.99 in the US store, so expect to pay something similar in Sarf Effrican ronts. If you were wise and bought the Season Pass, you’ll get it for mahala (sort of) when it launches.

Here’s a trailer to whet your appetite:

Next up is DLC for Killzone: Shadow Fall. The game has barely reached South Africa but already it has two new multiplayer maps in the works, as well as an official single-player expansion, but there is no concrete news on the latter. While an actual release date for either has not been mentioned, the good news is that the two new maps will be completely free.

Here is what the developer, Guerrilla games, has said about the first map:

First up is The Cruiser, a close-to-mid-range combat map set in the confines of a decommissioned ISA cruiser. Consisting of tight, claustrophobic corridors and interconnected compartments, the key to dominating this map is identifying and controlling its choke points.

And the second:

[It’s] a wide-open map situated in the hangar bay of one of the Helghan’s humongous mining spires.

And there you have it. Even without tons of major releases coming, there will still be a few things to keep you occupied as you wait for the gaming year to ramp up in the run-up to the Electronic Entertainment Expo happening in June.
