This Sunday will mark one year since the horrific and brutal rape and murder of 17-year-old Anene Booysen from Bredasdorp in the Western Cape.

The teenager was raped and disemboweled after a night out at a local tavern. She was found barely alive near a construction site and rushed to hospital where she tragically died 6 days later.

News of her rape and murder quickly spread across the world and again raised awareness about rape in South Africa.

Radio station Talk Radio 702 and the Lead SA are marking the anniversary by featuring content on stopping and reporting the scourge of rape on all its shows today along with the hashtag #StopRape on Twitter. From 6am to 6pm today, a beep will be played uninterrupted  every 4 minutes, this is to bring attention to the fact that every four minutes, someone is raped in South Africa. The beep, along with a number tally of victims, is also being played on the Lead SA site.

In memory of Anene, a memorial service will be held at various venues in Bredasdorp.
