Time for a ChatBerry? iOS and Android get BBM Voice & emoticons

For some improbable reason I have yet to fathom, everyone else in the office gets excited when a new chat client is released for smartphones. As the sole remaining user of ICQ who still can’t see any reason to switch to something else yet, I grudgingly allow these young ‘uns to call this ‘news’. So you’ll all be terribly excited to know that BlackBerry is about to update its BlackBerry Messenger app for non-BlackBerry phones, and new version will allow you to do more than simple send IM messages to groups of friends.

Wait for it… BBM VOICE IS COMING TO ANDROID AND iOS! Is that exciting enough for you? I’m reliably informed that this is a good thing, since BBM Voice tends to be better than other VOIP clients like Skype and Google Talk. Plus, it’s free, so you can chat away under your tongues fall out. And it works over data connections as well as WiFi.

What could possibly be better? How about photosharing and DROPBOX SUPPORT! Really. At last.

No wait. There’s more. Looking further down the press release, BBM now has EMOTICONS too. (Really, did BBM not have emoticons before?)

So there you have it. BBM Voice for iOS and Android. And thus the circle is complete. All chata apps can do anything on every operating system, except Facetime because Apple are xxxxx.

I mean this sincerely – I bet it’s going to be ace, but I don’t have time to read SMS messages any more, let alone add you to another friends list.

There’s a video too. Probably only slightly more editorialised than this news story. Thankyouverymuch.
