Standard Bank isn’t the only organisation playing around with Bitcoins in South Africa. Plenty of civic minded hackers from the TechInBraam community are also curious about the implications of the cryptocurrency and how it might be usefully used in South Africa.
Which is why they’ve set up a hackathon for Friday 14th March, which kicks off at 11am at Jozihub in 44 Stanley Avenue and will continue through Saturday 15th.
You might be on the side of the techno-anarchist who sees in Bitcoin a means to smash the system, or believe that it could be used to provide financial security to the vast unbanked population of Africa. Or you might simply be curious to find out more and learn a bit about what Bitcoins can actually be used for.
All are welcome, the spirit is one of collaboration and experimentation.
