“Free to Play” DOTA 2 documentary will be free to watch, too

A documentary all about three DOTA 2 players called Free to Play will be released on Steam for free on March the 19th. The date was announced in the News section of the movie’s official site.

It’s been put together by Valve, the company behind Steam, DOTA 2 and the Team Fortress 2 hat simulator. It follows three DOTA 2 players from three different teams that took part in the first international DOTA 2 tournament, and showcases just what’s needed to go from playing with friends to dominating in the big time.

According to the film’s bio, those things include a lot of effort and sacrifice, so the movie should provide aspirant gamers with a good idea of what will be expected of them should they choose to pursue a dream of eSports fame.

While the movie will be free, Valve will give you the option to buy the film if you enjoy it, with 25% of the proceeds going to the three players as well as the movie’s various contributors.

You’ll also get a bunch of DOTA 2 items with your purchase:

  • Fear’s Sven Set – Jeremy Klein, Ziedrich
  • hyhy’s Doom Set – Vermillion Wlad
  • Dendi’s Pudge Set – Danidem, Bronto ϟ Thunder
  • Free to Play Wards – Created by Valve
  • Free to Play HUD – Created by Valve
  • Free to Play Courier – Created by Valve

Sound good? Of course it does. Now watch the video below, and join me in looking forward to March 19.
