Snoop Dogg will announce your CoD: Ghosts kills for $3

“Dominating!” “Killing Spree!” “Rampage!” It’s a sad but true fact that, some ten years after its release, Unreal Tournament still represents the high point of automated in-game commentary. Which is presumably why Activision has pulled out the stops for its next Call of Duty: Ghosts add-on pack: the firm has only gone and hired rapper and perm-master Snoop Dogg to add his inimitable flavour of dialogue to the event announcements for the game.

Fo’ shizzle, yo, as I believe he is wont to say. Sometimes.

As daft as that sounded to me when I first found out, Snoop’s voice actually suits CoD’s adrenaline and testosterone-fuelled action. As he says in the video below, Call of Duty is “the coolest game in the ‘hood, all my homies play this game!”, and “…it just means the most about the project (sic) that my voice can be connected with a game that’s so hip and so ‘hood, it says a lot, it’s associated with greatness”.

As you’ll see in the video below, he’s been able to add a whole lot of Snoop-isms to his lines, which I think are going to be hilarious in the middle of a frantic firefight – hearing “crizzanked” instead of “cranked”, and “Homies out the joint, its party time!” when enemies are spotted is just so cool. It also demonstrates a little less hard-core seriousness, which I think the series needs. But that’s just me.

The new DLC is out on the 22nd of April for Xbox and Xbox One only, though, so PC, PS4 and PS3 players will have to wait until Microsoft’s paid-for exclusivity period ends, which should take a month or so. It only costs $3 (local pricing unknown), so at least buying Snoop’s voice won’t break the bank.

In case you’re wondering, Snoop Dogg won’t be Snoop Dogg for much longer – he converted to the Rastafari movement in 2012 and changed his name to Snoop Lion, but he’s still working under the name Snoop Dogg for his last solo studio album, after which he’ll be Snoop Lion forevermore. Presumably.
