DA says second election ad censored by SABC

The Democratic Alliance and its supporters have taken to Twitter to claim that the SABC has refused to broadcast yet another election advertisement. Following decisions over the last two weeks to ban ads by both the DA and the EFF on the grounds that they had the potential to incite violence, the state broadcaster has apparently pulled the plug on a second DA ad, which was a follow up to the previously banned “Ayisafani”.

Senior DA staff say that there will be a press conference this afternoon to discuss the issue. The SABC has neither confirmed nor denied its action as yet, although SAPA reports are being widely circulated.

No reason has yet been given as to why the ad might have been taken off the air. The ad shows Gauteng premier candidate Mmusi Maimane talking about the previous censorship, which is all getting a little meta now.  It’s still available online – you can watch it below.
