Everything you need to know about POPI – Talk in Jozi

You might well be aware of the fact that South Africa has a new law governing data privacy. The Protection of Personal Information Act (POPI) was signed into law back in November, and given that it took a decade to pass through parliament it’s not exactly news. While it’s great that South Africa now has a decent piece of legislation governing who’s allowed to do what with your data, there’s still a fair bit of confusion about it. After all, we don’t even know for sure when it will come into force yet, or when the guidelines and regulations about application will be published.

If you’re confused about what POPI means for you as a consumer – or you’re a start-up that’s concerned about compliance – you might want to pop along to JoziHub on 44 Stanley Road in Johannesburg tomorrow night. Danie Strachan, a partner at law firm Adams & Adams, is presenting a free talk sponsored by the Johannesburg Centre for Software Excellence (JCSE). Strachan is an expert in commercial law and consumer protection, and should be available for a Q&A after his presentation.

The talk is due to kick off at 6pm and to attend you just need to reserve a place using the Quicket booking system here.
