Questions are being raised about the impartiality of South Africa’ s national broadcaster, the SABC, after the corporation banned the DA’s Ayisafani election advert last week and and has now taken similar action against the Economic Freedom Fighters’ (EFF), barely a day after the fledgling party’s first ad was aired.
The advert was apparently banned by the SABC because of the EFF’s promise to “destroy e-tolls physically” – an ambiguous statement which could be interpreted as an incitement to criminal action.
The EFF posted these candid tweets vowing to take the SABC on.
The EFF is set to host a press conference at 11am today where party leader Julius Malema will be addressing the media on what his party plans to do about the banning.
