Free DevDays developer conference happening in Durban

Tech events in Durban are like buses. You wait all year for one to arrive, and then a second would crash into the back of it if it weren’t for an overheating engine (or is that just Putco?).

Local IT training and skills centre IT varsity sends word that this weekend is its inaugural DevDay conference that’s happening this weekend, on the 10th of May. Organisaer Waseem Sader explains that he’s hoping to make this a regular meet-up, which may go some way to tackling the paucity of such things in the area.

It’s completely free to attend and will encompass a full day’s worth of talks on HTML 5 by several of IT varsity’s lecturers, including its CEO Bilal Kathrada, himself an app developer and the winner of the Vodacom AppStar Award in 2012.

The event is aimed at starting Durban-based developers talking about HTML 5, a key component to developing mobile apps once and then simply porting them across to Windows Phone, iOS, Android and BlackBerry OS.

If you’d like to go, you must register on the event’s web page. Who knows, you could join up and find yourself part of the early days of Durban’s Silicon Beach, should IT varsity’s plans succeed at transforming the region into a viable tech hub.
