Far Cry 4 due in November, coming from top of the world

Last night Ubisoft announced via the official Ubisoft Blog that the next Far Cry is coming out this year for all five major platforms (PC, both Xboxes and PlayStations) on November 18th in the US, and November 20th for our territory which falls under the Europe, Middle-East and Africa (EMEA) region.

And as it turns out, the rumours that surfaced a few months back of the next Far Cry being set in the Himalayas were right: you will indeed be getting up to open-world mischief in the Himalayas this time around. Far Cry 4 is set in the fictional region of Kyrat, an area ruled over by a self-appointed “king” who, naturally, you’re going to have to take down using the Far Cry series’ mix of guns, vehicles and upgrades crafted out of wild animal hides.

Sadly, the official announcement didn’t say anything about riding elephants.

Far Cry 4 is apparently in development across not one, but five studios: Ubisoft’s Montreal studio leads development, with Toronto, Shanghai, Red Storm and Kiev filling in the gaps, so clearly all the stops are being pulled out in an effort to make this a truly incredible game.

“Following the success of Far Cry 3, we wanted to take the franchise to the next level and create a game that will surprise players and exceed fans’ expectations,” wrote executive producer Dan Hay on the official Ubisoft blog. “Given the unique setting, we feel Far Cry 4 will stand out as a top first-person shooter and we’re eager to reveal more about the game in the coming months.”

The company is expected to show actual gameplay footage of Far Cry 4 during its E3 conference that’s happening on June 9th.

Pre-orderers of Far Cry 4 will get three bonus single-player missions starring Hurk, the quirky barge captain from Far Cry 3’s Monkey Business exclusive content pack.

It seems like just the other day I was running around the Rook Islands archipelago hunting animals, shooting bad guys and setting things on fire in Far Cry 3. It wasn’t, though – that was 2012. How time flies.
