Come and unhack open data in Cape Town

The right to access to information has been enshrined in our constitution in response to the restrictive policies of the apartheid era when South Africans knew what government told them, and not much more.

While a lot of good work has already been done to to help make data more open than before, there is more that can be done. So to facilitate discussion on how best to proceed, Code4SA, the Creative Commons people and Silicon Cape are putting on an “unconference” where all concerned roleplayers will have their say in what should happen next.

The unconference is taking place in Cape Town at “The Bank” between June 30th and July 1st, and anyone can come along. There will be a good mix of “…representatives from government, civil society, academia, funding organisations, the media and the private sector” at the event that “will collaboratively set an agenda for action”.

If this sounds like something you’d like to participate in, head over to the event’s webpage to sign up.
