5 tech gifts for mom this Mother’s Day

Sunday 11th May is Mother’s Day here in sunny South Africa (and indeed in many countries around the world). Which means its time to celebrate all the qualities of mum-ness in the traditional manner. Breakfast in bed, roast dinner or a picnic, and a small gift which says ‘you’re great’ in all the official languages of the nation.

What’s that you say? You haven’t purchased said gift yet? No ideas what to buy? Allow us to throw you some nifty electronic-based ideas.

Relaxing with a good book is a good way to relax and if you’re looking for an e-reader, the Kindle Paperwhite is a pretty good option. The Kindle Paperwhite arrived on our shores earlier this year, boasting a number of new and improved features. The Kindle Paperwhite’s new display technology comes with a higher contrast and better reflectivity, meaning you can see what’s on the screen better, especially in the dark, putting less strain on your eyes. The 25% faster processor lets you turn pages faster and smoother and the Kindle Page Flip feature lets you navigate from different pages and books without losing the place where you last read.

The Kindle Paperwhite retails for around R2 900 for the Wi-Fi model and R 3 300 for the 3G and Wi-Fi model.

For instance, the S5 is water resistant and dustproof, has a finger print sensor, a heart rate monitor, 5.1 inch Super AMOLED touchscreen, a 16MP rear camera and 2MP front-facing camera, runs Android KitKat and has a sleek design with a back cover similar to that of the Galaxy Note 3 and a range of colours including gold. Read our full review of the Samsung Galaxy S5, here.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 retails for R10 200, or you can get it on contract from MTN, Cell C, Vodacom and Telkom Mobile.
