New Mortal Kombat X will kick your face in 2015

Lovers of ultra-violent games unite in joy at the announcement of a new Mortal Kombat game for next-gen consoles! It’s called Mortal Kombat X, and by the look of the trailer it’s going to offer as many, if not more opportunities to go to town on your opponents in one-on-one, over-the-top martial art limb-rending action than any of its predecessors.

The game was confirmed via Twitter by Ed Boon, the creative director over at NetherRealm Studios after a bunch of rumours and leaks hit the web over the past week or so.

The Mortal Kombat series has enjoyed somewhat of a revival thanks to Warner Bros., who took over the franchise from beleaguered publisher Midway back in 2011. The first game to come out of the new arrangement was the Mortal Kombat reboot, which was a hit with fans and critics alike thanks to some incredible moves, a huge list of fighters to play as and of course, a bunch of brand-new fatalities.

Check out the newly-released trailer below. Just be warned, however, when I say it’s violent I don’t mean the cartoon kind.

At the end of the video you’ll see the release date – that’s about the only disappointment as it appears the game is only going to be here in 2015.
