Facebook goes down for five minutes, leaves world in agony

Popular social networking site Facebook went dark for a few minutes this morning (Thursday). Judging by the panicked reactions to the outage across other social media, the outage seems to affected most people around the world.

During the downtime, when you navigated to any Facebook page or profile, a notification was displayed on screen simply read “Sorry, something went wrong. We’re working on getting this fixed as soon as we can.”

No explanation has been given yet, but the instant reactions across the world undermine how curiously rare this kind of outage in this day and age.
