Sony unveils ultrathin Xperia T3 smartphone

Soon, they’ll be 3D printing phones onto microscopically membranes and implanting them directly into your eyes. In the meantime, you’ll have to settle for this. Sony just announced what it believes is the slimmest 5.3inch smartphone around. At 7mm thick it’s over half a millimetre thinner than the iPhone 5S, but the Huawei Ascend P6 and P7 take almost a full millimetre more off of that.

All the same, for a phone with a big screen like that it’s still a major achievement. And when you get to the sub-micromillimetre level of comparison – really, who’s counting?

The Sony Xperia T3 weighs in at only 148 grams, 15 grams lighter than Sony’s flasgship Xperia Z2 smartphone. It has a sturdy steel frame, with matte material design on the back cover and comes in white, black and purple. In front, you’ll find a 5.3 inch HD Triluminous display which means, bolder and more vivid colour and image quality. The screen also has IPS display that gives you a better and clearer view from any angle.

Software

The Sony Xperia T3 runs the latest Android 4.4 version, supports super-fast 4G networks, is powered by a quad core CPU running at 1.4 GHz processor and has 2500 mAh battery with Battery Stamina mode which Sony says will help your battery last longer.

To make it easy for you to transfer all your files and data from an old Android or iOS device, Sony has included the Xperia Tranfer feature, which you can use to move your contacts, photos, bookmarks, apps, music, messages and more, without having to use a PC or Mac.

Camera

At the back of the Sony Xperia T3 is an 8MP Cyber-shot camera featuring Exmor RS, a feature that lets you take photos even in challenging lighting conditions. With HDR for video, you can take videos even when backlit. And for those times when you need a bit of help taking a steady photo, SteadyShot will make sure your photos come out clear and distortion free.

A number of camera apps have been included in the Sony Xperia T3 to help you get the most out of your camera. Social live lets you post, see and share comments on Facebook in real time on the phone’s screen. AR effect lets you add sound effects and fun animations to your photos and videos. Portrait Retouch lets you style your selfies with real-time makeup, decorative frames and more. And with Timeshift Burst, you can capture 31 frames in just two seconds.

Release Date

The Sony Xperia T3 will be launched worldwide at the end of July 2014. Click on the gallery below to see more photos of the Sony Xperia T3. There’s price yet, but we suspect it’ll be around the R5 000 mark.
