[WATCH] 16 minutes of Dragon Age: Inquisition

I know it’s not really the done thing to go gaga over in-game graphics – all players worth their salt know that gameplay is king – but we just can’t help getting excited about how fantastically amazing Dragon Age: Inquisition looks.

So when this video hit the web showing off the game in action – there are 16 glorious minutes of footage to soak up – I just had to share. It was originally shown at E3 behind closed doors so it’s not exactly new, but it’s still well worth a gawk:

EA and Bioware appear to have really, really taken the many criticisms of Dragon Age 2 to heart and made Inquisition’s combat, characters, world and story better, some of which the video demonstrates quite nicely.

The proof is still in the actual playing, but at least what Bioware/EA have shown off so far looks promising.

They’ve even pushed gaming boundaries by including the first fully-homosexual character in the game. I mean sure, we all knew that Hawke swung both ways in DA2 but he/she never explicitly came out and said it. Nobody had to play him or her that way, but there were options to get romantic with a number of characters regardless of what gender your Hawke was. This time around, the game pretends nothing – Polygon’s article says the mage Dorian “will be a love interest for male Inquisitors”.

As an older gamer, it’s cool to see game makers appearing to grow up. My cynical games journalist mind, on the other hand, thinks that it’s being done to dip into the pockets of a far broader audience, one that actively includes the LGBT community.

It’s an interesting move, to be sure, and only time will tell what sort of backlash – if any – will come from more conservative gamers after the game launches on the 7th of October, 2014.
