Facebook is testing out a new “Buy” button

Two months ago, Twitter and Amazon launched #AmazonCart, a nifty service that lets you easily add items to your Amazon shopping cart by including that exact hashtag to the end of a tweet.

Not wanting to be outdone, of course, Facebook is now testing a new “Buy” button that takes shopping on social media one step ahead, allowing users to browse and buy directly from the app.

With Facebook’s Buy button, users on desktop and mobile platforms will be able to buy anything from an advert by clicking on it and following the necessary steps. According to Facebook, this is a move to drive direct sales through the social network from both the News Feed and pages.

Keeping privacy and security in mind, Facebook says it’s taken steps to help make payments safe and secure:  “None of the credit or debit card information people share with Facebook when completing a transaction will be shared with other advertisers, and people can select whether or not they’d like to save payment information for future purchases.”

For now,  the Buy button is only available to US users and is also limited to a few small and medium-sized businesses in America.
