A behind-the-scenes look at AC: Unity’s new engine

Do you like the look of the new next-gen-only Assassin’s Creed? Does the geeky part of you wonder how Ubisoft has made it look as good as it does? Well wonder no more, because the publisher has pulled back the curtain on the game’s engine to show fans some of what has gone into making AC: Unity the most beautiful, deadly and challenging Assassin’s Creed game they’ve done to date.

We found the video on Gametrailers.com, showing how Ubisoft built the world of French Revolution-era Paris, how the engine renders light, shadows and even the air, how they refined the fighting mechanic to make it more challenging and realistic and how all characters in the game, from main characters to NPCs have been rendered with more detail than ever before. They also mention how assassins are more agile and deadly this time around, a rather intriguing proposition considering previous assassins weren’t exactly Stumble McClumsypantses.

It is truly astounding what developing a game for PS4s and Xbox Ones allows the developers to do, and just how limited they have been with the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3’s old hardware.

Take a look at the six-minute behind-the-scenes video below and see if you agree:

Assassin’s Creed: Unity, as you might already know, is out on October 28th for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
