Are you addicted to your phone? There’s an app for that

How much time do you spend staring at your iPhone screen? A few hours, half a day… or even more? It’s hard to really tell, but with the newly launched Moment app for iOS, you can now track how much time you spend on your iPhone.

After you activate the “I’m on my iPhone” switch, Moment starts its job. You can even set a daily usage limit for the amount of time you want to spend so when you’re about to reach your limit, Moment will let you know through a buzzer (you can choose from various tones ranging from subtle to annoying).

Once you reach your limit, the buzzer tells you to put your phone down (but it’s of course up to you whether you decide to actually do that).

Kevin Holesh, the developer behind Moment, said he created the app after realising how much time he spent on his phone instead of engaging with his fiancee and the world around him.

“About six months ago, I realised I had a serious problem. I was addicted to my phone, exactly like I predicted when I first waded into these always-connected waters. I felt naked if my phone wasn’t weighing down my right pocket. That’s when I decided to build a real solution,” Holesh says on his blog.

Not only does Moment track your phone usage, but it also tracks where you go using your phone’s GPS and plots it on a map for you to see.

An Android version of Moment will be released soon, but in the meantime, if you’re an iPhone user and are looking for something that may curb your phone addiction, download Moment from iTunes and give it a go.
