Assassin’s Creed Rogue confirmed for November 11 release

While all eyes are on Assassin’s Creed Unity, the upcoming AC game for PC, Xbox One and PS4, not a whole lot has been said about the AC game Ubisoft said would be hitting the Xbox 360 and the PS3 at around the same time frame. No more: Ubisoft has finally announced the game in an official capacity: it’s called Assassin’s Creed Rogue, and it will be out on November 11.

It’s set in North America in the 18th century in the middle of the Seven Years War, and it will play quite similarly to Black Flag, complete with ship-sailing action and ship-to-ship battles. This time around, though, you aren’t an Assassin or pirate/assassin hybrid: instead, you’re an ex-Assassin called Shay Patrick Cormac who has been betrayed by his masters and mentors and joined the Templar order, those armoured badasses whose mandate it is to hunt down and exterminate assassins. It’s an interesting dichotomy for the franchise that I look forward to seeing play out.

According to the press release we received, “Rogue gives players new locations across North America to explore, including the frozen North Atlantic, the Appalachian River Valley and New York. In Assassin’s Creed Rogue, players experience the Assassin’s Creed universe through the eyes of a Templar. As Shay Patrick Cormac, players suffer the brotherhood’s betrayal and transform into an Assassin hunter.”

Ubisoft has also promised enhanced naval combat and more weapons with which to dispatch opponents. Check out the preview video Ubisoft put out to promote the game:

This all sounds really good, although I’m sure the graphics won’t be able to touch anything being done with Unity owing to the ageing hardware it’s aimed at. Still, Ubisoft can hardly ignore the 160 million or so PS3s and Xbox 360s out there, and this game is just for those players (and Ubisoft’s bottom line).

Ubisoft didn’t mention anything about a PC version of the game, though, but it’s a good bet that Rogue will make it there eventually, if not right away.
