Standard Bank’s updated banking app arrives on smartphones

Almost five months to the day since Standard Bank released its drastically overhauled banking app for tablets, the update has made its way across to the smartphone banking apps for both iOS and Android users. The new application will feature a similar user interface and the same ability to customise the dashboard area of the app to suit each individual’s needs.

The tablet app has been well received by the bank’s clientèle with more than 50 000 active users according to Vuyo Mpako, head of innovation and channel design at Standard Bank.

For those who have already made use of the Standard Bank tablet app the creation of a Standard Bank ID, the unique login credentials used to identify each customer will already be familiar and will work immediately with the new smartphone apps without having to create it again.

The one-click savings feature which Standard Bank calls ‘Impulse Save’ also makes its way from the tablet app to the smartphone app allowing Standard Bank users to save excess funds with the click of a button.

For iPhone users the existing app will be automatically upgraded to the new version on the iTunes App Store and will replace the current version on their phones while Android users will have to download the new version of the app from the Google Play Store and delete the old version of the app, if they so choose to.

While Standard Bank does make apps for both Windows Phone, BlackBerry 7 and BlackBerry 10 smartphones, none of these apps will be receiving the upgrade treatment any time soon.

The updated apps are already available in the iTunes and Google Play stores for download right now.
