Mxit is giving away coding programme bursaries worth R25k

Local instant messaging service Mxit has announced a partnership with a new Cape Town-based coding school called codeX Academy.

Mxit will be giving away three bursaries to young Mxit users eyeing a career in coding, or just wanting to improve their current coding skillset.

Three users aged between 18 and 24 will receive a bursary worth R25 000 that will cover tuition fees for the full-time three-month programme at codeX Academy.

Bursary recipients will learn coding skills, agile philosophy and methods such as test-driven development, extreme programming and scrum.

“At Mxit, we continue to push the boundaries of innovation around the potential of mobile phones to drive positive change in our society,” says Mxit’s Sarah Strauss. ” The aim is to open doors for young South Africans to be trained in real coding environments, and to nurture raw, young talent for key development positions in mobile technology companies like Mxit.”

You can apply for the codeX Academy bursary by adding the Mpower Sponsorships app on Mxit.

Applications for the first term close on 30th August 2014, and on 15th December 2014 for term two.

Mxit is available for Android, iOS, Windows Phone and BlackBerry.
