Symantec rolls nine products into one

Online virus protection and security is a huge business, and if you are Symantec that means $236 million in revenue for the last quarter. But if you want to keep your current subscribers and potentially lure new ones, you have to keep up with technology.

As it moves forward focusing more on smartphones, tablets and other internet-connected units, Symantec announced that they will be rolling their nine current products into one offering. The new product will simply be called Norton Security and is to launch on 23rd September at a cost of $80 per year subscription.

The reason for the combining of all their products was the result of customers, old and new, feeling a bit confused on which solution they should go for to meet their security needs. “What we realized was we actually ended up confusing a lot of customers,” Gerry Egan, senior director of product management.

Norton Security will combine all their antivirus, spyware, spam-monitoring software and incorporate most of the features found in Norton AntiVirus, Norton Internet Security and Norton 360. The closest existing product it has, is the $70 Norton 360 Multi-Device.

“The new Norton Security simply gives you the best of Norton on the many ways you connect. In one simple solution, you get comprehensive protection that’s specialized to secure your device so you can be safe however and wherever you connect,” reads a description on the website.
