Shadow of Mordor for last-gen delayed to November 21st

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor won’t be here for everyone on the same date: we’ve received a press release from Warner Bros.’ local representatives to say that the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game will only be out on the 21st of November because “they will take more time in development”.

The PC version, meanwhile, is out on the 30th of September via Steam in the US, Europe and us too. The only versions to arrive on the most recently-announced date – the 3rd of October – are the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions, and this after the game was originally expected on the 7th.

So yes, Shadow of Mordor has had a bit of a turbulent run-up to its actual release, but at least we know now for sure when each edition will land.

I do worry about what the delay will mean for sales of the game on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, however. If it’s good on the other platforms, maybe sales of those versions will get a boost, but of course the opposite will be true if it’s not.

I really want Shadow of Mordor to succeed, as I think its “Assassin’s Creed meets Middle-earth” vibe and cool nemesis mechanic has the potential to make it a good action game in its own right, and one of the best games based on Tolkien’s lore yet.

The press release also makes mention of an “ultimate nemesis” who players will meet at the end of the game, and I can’t wait to see who that is going to be. First prize is Sauron, but who knows – Warner Bros. are keeping their lips zipped.

At the very least I hope it’s a Middle-earth-themed Assassin’s Creed, since I really enjoy those games and wouldn’t mind seeing their mechanics transplanted into another world.

In case you haven’t seen anything of the game yet, here’s a cool trailer to get you excited for whenever it gets here for your preferred platform.
